Short term car lease in Leicester, from one month

Short term car lease in Leicester, from one month

Leicester sits about as centrally as anywhere in England. Birmingham, Nottingham, Peterborough and Coventry are all inside an hour; the M1 and M69 put most of the country within half a day. It’s a good place to be based if your work moves around — and a punishing one to own a car in, because all those miles land on a vehicle you’re going to have to sell.

A short term lease removes that problem. You pay a fixed monthly amount, drive the car, and hand it back. What it’s worth afterwards isn’t your concern. Terms run from one month, three, six or nine months, up to twelve or eighteen.

Car lease terms in Leicester

Pick the length that matches the situation. A 3 month car lease in Leicester covers a short contract or a gap between cars. A 6 month term suits a fixed-term role or probation period, and 9 months covers an academic or financial year.

For anything longer, a 12 month car lease in Leicester or an 18 month car lease gives the lowest monthly rate — worth taking if the requirement is settled, and still far shorter than a conventional three or four year agreement. If you’re weighing this against a traditional lease, our guide to car subscription vs lease sets out the differences.

Mileage, and being straight about it

Since Leicester is a place people drive from rather than just around, this matters more here than most: every short term lease comes with a mileage allowance, and going over it costs extra.

That’s the honest trade. You’re not carrying depreciation, but you are agreeing roughly how far you’ll drive. So be realistic when you book rather than optimistic — underestimating to shave a few pounds off the monthly usually costs more at the end than it saved. Allowances start at 1,000 miles a month on terms under a year and 833 a month — 10,000 annually — from twelve months up, with higher bands to choose from. Tell us what you actually cover in a typical month and we’ll set the allowance around it. For reference, excess miles are charged at 65p plus VAT on 1 and 3 month agreements and 40p plus VAT on longer terms. If your driving changes partway through, say so early; adjusting mid-term is almost always cheaper than settling excess mileage later.

Picking a length

Car leasing in Leicester, car subscription, monthly car rental, short term car hire — all roads lead to the same place: a car for a fixed number of months on one monthly payment.

Who’s leasing cars in Leicester

People whose patch is the Midlands. Regional roles, field engineers, consultants and anyone covering several sites a week. High mileage destroys resale value — on a lease, that’s our problem rather than yours.

Research and university staff. Space Park Leicester, the two universities and the research posts around them run on funded, fixed-length contracts. The car can end when the funding does.

NHS and care staff. Bank, locum and fixed-term roles across the Leicester hospitals and community services.

Students and postgrads. Leicester has one of the highest student-to-resident ratios in the country, and term time is around nine months, not thirty-six.

Households needing a second car temporarily. A new job with an awkward commute, a partner working shifts, a few months where one car genuinely isn’t enough. Take one for as long as you need it and stop.

Businesses. New starters who need a car immediately, teams that grow in waves, and work vans on the same flexible terms — including electric vans if your routes take you into charged zones.

Choosing a car for Leicester

If most of your driving is inside the ring road — Clarendon Park, Stoneygate, Belgrave, the terraced streets where parking is on-street and tight — something compact makes daily life considerably easier. If you’re on the M1, M69 or A46 several days a week, the calculation changes entirely: economy and comfort over distance are worth more than manoeuvrability.

Our range covers both — city cars, saloons, SUVs and 4x4s, all new or near-new. Electric options suit lower-mileage local driving well; if you’re doing long motorway runs most weeks, work through the charging stops on your actual routes before deciding. Our guide to the benefits of an electric car subscription explains where the savings actually come from.

What’s included, and how the car reaches you

Your monthly price covers the car, servicing, maintenance, road tax and MOT and breakdown cover. Insurance, fuel or charging are yours, and you pay a refundable damage deposit alongside your first month, which comes back at the end. Our FAQs set out exactly what’s covered.

We deliver across Leicester and Leicestershire — Clarendon Park, Stoneygate, Knighton, Evington, Aylestone, Belgrave, Braunstone and Beaumont Leys, out to Oadby, Wigston, Loughborough, Hinckley, Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray, Coalville and Lutterworth. Home or workplace, whichever suits. The car arrives cleaned and ready, and when you’re done one call brings us back for it.

Short term car lease Leicester: your questions answered

What happens if I go over my mileage?

You pay a per-mile charge on the excess at the end of the term. On 1 and 3 month agreements that’s 65p per mile plus VAT; on 6, 9, 12 and 18 month terms it’s 40p per mile plus VAT. Those are the rates, stated upfront — and it’s always cheaper to raise your allowance during the term than to settle overage afterwards.

Can I lease a car just for the length of a contract?

Yes — that’s what these terms are for. Choose a length that suits the commitment and return it when you’re done. There’s no exit fee for letting the term finish naturally.

Can I get a car lease in Leicester with no deposit?

No — and providers advertising one usually recover it somewhere else. Alongside month one we take a refundable damage deposit. It covers early cancellation, missed payments or initial damage, and you get it back. If nothing is payable at the start, it has usually been absorbed into the monthly figure.

My post is funded rather than permanent — does that count against me?

Not in itself. A research contract with an end date is a known quantity, and what’s assessed is whether the monthly figure is comfortable across the term you’re actually taking — which for funded work usually lines up neatly with the funding. Getting a lease car without a job sets out what evidence supports an application.

Do you run credit checks?

Yes, on every agreement. Providers who skip the check normally charge a bigger deposit or a higher monthly to price in the risk, so the money reappears elsewhere. Judge any offer on its total cost, not the headline monthly.

How is this different from car rental?

Rental prices in days because the car is turned around constantly. A monthly term does not, so the per-day cost falls once you are past a fortnight.

Is an electric car worth it for high-mileage work?

It depends where you charge. If most of your mileage is local and you can charge at home, running costs drop noticeably. If your week is long motorway runs relying on public rapid chargers, the gap narrows sharply — and the charging stops cost you time as well as money. Worth being honest with yourself about the routes before committing.

Do you deal with businesses as well as private customers?

Both. On the business side that means sole traders through to PLCs, ex-VAT pricing, and underwriting against the company rather than the individual. Fleet terms can be staggered rather than aligned.

Do you deliver outside Leicester?

Yes, across Leicestershire and the East Midlands. If you’re based further north we also cover short term car leasing in Nottingham. Pass us the address at the point of booking and we’ll confirm what’s possible.

Can I change car or extend?

Yes. Change vehicle at the end of a period, extend if the situation continues, or hand it back. Tell us early either way.

Why are short term leases getting more popular?

Flexibility and lower risk. A modern car, no thousands committed to owning it, and an exit whenever circumstances turn. Our guide to leasing versus buying sets out the trade-offs.

Pricing and VAT

Prices are ex VAT, which suits most Leicester businesses.

The VAT rule in short: private use available means recovery on the hire charges is generally restricted to 50%. Vans escape it and usually allow the full amount. Ours arrives as one monthly payment with maintenance already inside it, so there’s no separate line to look for.

More in our guide to VAT on lease cars.

General guidance. Your accountant should confirm how it applies to you.
