Lease car Reading — short term, from one month, no three-year tie-in
How long will you need this car? In the Thames Valley, that’s rarely a question with a three-year answer. Contracts run to a date. Projects end. Relocations settle somewhere other than where you first landed.
So we sell by the month. A Reading car lease with Drive Subscribe starts at 1 month and runs to 3. Pick the term that matches the situation, not the one the finance company prefers.
Short term car leasing in Reading: choosing how long
Lease car Reading, car leasing, car subscription, monthly car rental, short term car hire — the searches differ; the product is a car for a set number of months on a single payment.
- A 1 month car lease in Reading covers a gap between cars or a month of extra cover.
- A 3 month car lease matches a Thames Valley contract or a probation period.
- A 6 month car lease suits a fixed-term role at Green Park or Thames Valley Park.
- A 9 month car lease covers an academic year, or a posting with a known end.
- A 12 month car lease gives the lowest monthly figure once you’ve settled, running to eighteen.
Who’s leasing cars in Reading
The M4 contractor. Green Park runs 60-plus businesses across 195 acres, with more than 6,500 people on site; Thames Valley Park holds the Microsoft and Oracle campuses. Much of that headcount is fixed-term. When the contract has an end date, so should the car.
The recent arrival. Reading pulls people in for work, and most spend twelve months working out whether they want Caversham, Woodley or somewhere off the M4 entirely. Signing a three-year agreement in week one commits you at the exact point you know least.
The part-time commuter. Reading station is one of the best-connected outside London — fast services to Paddington, the Elizabeth line running through. Plenty of people here take the train in three days a week and need a car for the other four. That car doesn’t warrant a three-year contract.
The growing company. Thames Valley Science Park alone hosts 80-plus companies, from seed-stage to global R&D. Hiring in waves means needing cars in waves. Add them when you hire, drop them when a project closes.
Your questions, answered
Is this monthly car rental in Reading?
Most people use the words interchangeably. Ours is a short term car lease in Reading — a ULEZ-compliant car delivered to your home or office, with servicing, road tax and breakdown cover inside the payment.
Do you do car subscription in Reading?
Yes. Car subscription and short term car leasing are the same thing here, the name following the length.
Can I get a car subscription in Reading with no deposit?
Not with us, and be sceptical of anyone advertising one. You pay a refundable damage deposit alongside your first month. It exists to cover early cancellation, missed payments or initial damage — and it comes back to you at the end. Anyone offering nothing upfront has built it into the monthly instead, where it’s harder to see. Mileage is agreed upfront. Exceed the allowance and it’s 65p a mile plus VAT on 1 and 3 month agreements, or 40p plus VAT on 6 months and beyond.Allowances begin at 1,000 miles a month under twelve months, or 833 a month from twelve up, and you can choose more at booking.
Will you credit check me?
Yes, every agreement. It’s standard. Providers who skip it usually charge a bigger deposit or a higher monthly to price in the risk, so the money reappears elsewhere. Judge any offer on the total cost of the agreement, not the number in the advert.
Do you deliver outside Reading itself?
We cover Reading and the wider Thames Valley — home address or office. Business park deliveries are routine, so if it’s easier to take the keys at your desk than at home, say so when you book.
Can I put this through the business?
Yes. Sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and PLCs. The appeal for Thames Valley firms is usually that you stop paying for vehicles that sit between contracts, and there’s nothing to dispose of when a project ends.
What if my plans change mid-term?
Talk to us early. Shorter terms let you change vehicle at the end of each period, and there are longer terms if things settle. Changing during a term is almost always cheaper than absorbing charges at the end of one.

Picking the car
Town-centre parking rewards something compact; the school run and the trip west reward something that isn’t. Our range covers both, from city cars through saloons to 4x4s, all new or near-new. If the commute is mostly London-bound, ask about the electric options — they take the Congestion Charge discount on top of free ULEZ.
Current pricing
Monthly cost depends on the vehicle and the length of term, and availability moves. Have a look at what’s live on 3-month, 6-month and 9-month subscriptions, or see everything currently available.
Our leasing versus buying guide weighs it up properly, and subscription versus lease explains where the two part company.
Do you deal with businesses as well as private customers?
Both. On the business side that means sole traders through to PLCs, ex-VAT pricing, and underwriting against the company rather than the individual. Fleet terms can be staggered rather than aligned.
I’m on a fixed-term contract — does that count against me?
Not on its own. The underwriters look at whether the payments are affordable, not at how permanent the job title sounds, which is just as well in a town where so much work is contract-based. Getting a lease car without a job covers what evidence helps.
Prices, VAT and what you can reclaim
Prices are shown without VAT — that’s the figure most businesses budget against. We show the VAT-inclusive number too, so nobody has to do the sum themselves.
Three things decide what you actually recover. Whether the car is available for private use, which usually caps recovery on the hire charges at half. Whether maintenance is billed as its own line, which varies by provider. We don’t split it out — one payment covers everything. And whether the vehicle is a car or a van, because vans are treated far more generously.
More on all three in VAT on lease cars.
